What it is

A chemical peel applies an acid solution that loosens the outer layers of skin, so fresher skin comes through as it renews.

Peels range from light to deeper. Which one, if any, depends on your skin.

What people come in for

  • Dullness and uneven tone
  • Texture
  • Some types of acne and marks

How it runs here

  • It starts with your skin analysis.
  • Peel strength is chosen from your analysis.
  • Aftercare is gone over before you leave.

How chemical peels work

A peel is a solution of acids applied to the skin for a set time. It loosens the bonds between dead skin cells, so the outer layers shed and fresher skin comes through.

Light peels work on the very top layer and need little or no downtime. Deeper peels reach further and can do more for uneven tone, marks and texture, with more peeling afterward. We also offer BioRePeel, a peel designed for little visible peeling.

What your visit looks like

Every plan here starts with a skin analysis and a health history, and our medical director, Viola Hysa, MD, oversees every client profile. The analysis decides whether a peel makes sense for you at all, and if so, which strength.

Your skin is cleansed and prepped, then the peel goes on. Most people feel tingling or warmth for a few minutes. Then it's removed or neutralized, and a calming layer goes on before you leave with written aftercare.

Who should wait

We'll usually ask you to wait, or we'll plan around it, if:

  • You've taken isotretinoin recently.
  • You have a cold sore, rash or broken skin on your face.
  • You're sunburned or freshly tanned.
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. Some peels aren't used then.

Before your appointment

  • Pause retinol and other strong actives for a few days beforehand. We'll tell you what to stop and when.
  • Skip waxing and other strong treatments on your face in the days before.
  • Keep your face out of the sun.

After your appointment

  • Depending on the strength, expect anything from a little dryness to a few days of peeling.
  • Don't pick or peel the skin yourself. Let it come off on its own.
  • Use a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturizer and sunscreen every day.
  • Hold off on retinol and acids until your skin has finished healing.

Questions

Will I peel?

With some peels, yes, for a few days. With lighter ones, barely. We'll tell you which to expect.

How many sessions will I need?

We'll tell you after your skin analysis, not before. It depends on your skin and what you want changed, and a number quoted before anyone's looked at you is a guess.

How often can I get a peel?

It depends on the strength. Light peels can be repeated more often than deeper ones. Your plan sets the spacing so your skin has time to recover.

Can I wear makeup after a peel?

After a light peel, often the next day. After a stronger one, wait until the skin has settled. We'll tell you for your peel.

Peel or Glacē Facial?

The Glacē Facial cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates with no downtime. A peel goes further for tone and texture, with more recovery. The analysis decides which fits.

Start with a skin analysis

We look at your skin before we suggest anything. Then you get a plan written for you, and you decide what happens next.

Worried you'll be sold a package? You won't. The analysis tells us what your skin needs, and sometimes that's less than you came in for.
